Ballot & Issue Info
Proposition 1
- We recommend a VOTE YES.
Proposition 1 would correct some of the extremism of our current law. It would put health care for both mother and child back into the hands of doctor and patient; not the legislature.
To clear up some misinformation:
Prop 1 does not change Idaho’s current parental consent law (SB 1239).
The “20%” increase in OB-GYNs since pro-life legislature is a false narrative. This reflects doctors who have a license; but have left Idaho and no longer practice here. Practicing doctors have decreased.

HRJ4
- We recommend a VOTE NO.
While this ballot measure may seem to be about drug control, it is much more.
It begins the process of eliminating our ballot initiative rights. As Idaho citizens we have the right to mount a citizens’ initiative when we believe our state legislature is not listening to what the voters want.
The passage of HRJ4 would mean Idaho Citizens would surrender there right for any initiative process regarding drug policy.
Property Tax
- Not on Ballot
The elimination of property tax is not on the ballot. However, candidates who support the elimination of property tax are. While, we can all agree that taxes are no fun to pay; property taxes pay for the most fundamental services of our communities: hospitals, schools, emergency and safety efforts, and roads.
Some candidates like Scott Herndon for senate claim it is feasible to eliminate property taxes without harm to communities—and without taxing alternatives. This is a plan few support; including credible organizations on both sides of the isle, and for good reason. To eliminate this tax without replacement options would be a problem in that:
- The impact on communities would be a disaster.
- To eliminate the tax without replacement would require a constitutional amendment; something extremely difficult to do.
To give property tax relief responsible candidates are recommending we increase the home owner exemption and let others who benefit from community services continue to pay their fair share of taxes.
